Working for Roots

Roots is determined to set ourselves apart as a group of clinicians who desire to grow alongside our clients, whether we are just getting started or have been practicing for decades. As an internship site, we aim to be a coveted clinical training site for master’s and PhD level students, as well as for associates, with a heavy emphasis on the clinician’s development of self and the importance of authenticity and candor in clinical work. Our seasoned clinicians are encouraged towards the same growth, that our clients are our best teachers, and their work towards healing is contingent on our own work within ourselves.

PhD and Masters Student Practicum/ Internships

Beyond weekly supervision with a licensed clinician, you’ll join a cohort of graduate students for consultation groups focused on self-discovery and therapeutic growth. Our training emphasizes integrating your unique story and client work to develop your therapeutic identity. The practicum and internship phase is a pivotal moment in your journey as a therapist. As you transition from the classroom to working directly with clients, the need for peer connection, oversight, and practical training grows. At Roots, we provide a supportive environment to help you explore the question, “Who am I as a therapist?”
For student Practicum/Internships, We Offer:

Weekly supervision by a licensed clinician

Coordination with your university for evaluations

Recording equipment for sessions

Clientele aligned with your interests and goals

Therapy supplies (play therapy, sand tray, etc.)

Private practice therapy can be deeply rewarding, but it can also feel isolating. Without a community of like-minded colleagues to reflect on your work and challenge your perspectives, it’s easy to grow stagnant.

At Roots, we believe clinical work is a lifelong journey of learning—and learning thrives in relationship. If you’re passionate about growing as a clinician and supporting the development of newer therapists, we’d love to connect. Reach out to Jeremy to explore opportunities to work with Roots or join one of our consult groups, where you can deepen your clinical skills and build meaningful connections with a supportive community.

Roots Consult Group

Feeling disconnected from yourself or your clients can lead to burnout and exhaustion. Relational Psychodynamic Therapy (RPT) focuses on reconnecting with yourself and cultivating curiosity about your emotional responses during sessions. This approach helps you tap into your greatest clinical asset—your presence—and reduces the isolation that often leads to burnout.

Our RPT consultation group is unlike traditional groups. Instead of focusing on advice-giving, we create a space for deep, experiential learning. Through curiosity and emotional presence, you’ll explore your reactions to client work, whether presenting a case or not. This process fosters connection, authenticity, and a richer imagination for your clinical practice.
