Hi, I'm Lauren Lawrence, Graduate Student Clinician at Roots Psychotherapy!

Living in the world can be confusing. We move through relationships, experiences, losses, expectations, and countless messages about who we're supposed to be, often trying to make sense of it all as we go. Sometimes our minds tell one story while our bodies tell another, leaving us feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or unsure of what to trust. You may find yourself wondering why certain patterns keep repeating, why you react the way you do, or whether there's another way to understand your experience. Therapy can be a place to slow down, listen with curiosity, and discover new ways of participating in your own life without needing to have all the answers.

Your Therapy Experience

I don't believe therapy is about offering quick answers or giving advice. I believe therapy is a practice of learning to listen to yourself listening—to pay attention to your thoughts, emotions, body, relationships, hopes, and longings with honesty and compassion. Therapy creates space to cultivate the conditions where change can take root. As we begin to question old narratives, experiment with new ways of understanding ourselves, and practice relating differently to our experience, new possibilities for living begin to emerge. While therapy can't erase the realities or injustices we face, it can help us move from simply surviving toward living with greater agency, connection, and intention.

Specialties & Approach

Some of the experiences that have shaped me most include teaching high school, working in wildlife rehabilitation, spending more than a decade restoring historic homes while building a life with my husband, and returning to graduate school. Along the way, I've experienced meaningful loss, changing relationships with my own body, and seasons of profound self-doubt. These experiences have taught me that growth is rarely linear and that meaningful change often unfolds through paying attention, telling the truth about what is no longer working, and making intentional choices about how we want to live. They continue to remind me to approach others with humility, curiosity, and compassion.

More About Me

I spend a lot of my life cultivating things. Sometimes that's tending to a garden, sometimes it's rearranging a room until it reflects the season we're in, and sometimes it's filling another journal as I try to make sense of my own experience. I love memoirs, poetry, and stories that remind me how wonderfully complex people are, and I rarely pass an interesting sky, bird, or insect without stopping to look. I hope to always hold onto the sense that life is always inviting my participation—that people, places, and the living world are always more than my first understanding of them.
