Services I provide:
From the outside, you probably look like you’re doing just fine. You show up, get things done, take care of the people around you. You may even be the person everyone else comes to when they need help. But carrying all of that gets exhausting. You keep busy, make jokes, tell yourself other people have it worse, and minimize how hard things actually feel. Somewhere along the way, you may have lost track of what you need. You don’t have to be in crisis to deserve support. You’re allowed to put some of the weight down, too.

Hi there! I'm Dani Cook, LCSW at Roots Psychotherapy!

I work with teens and adults who are navigating seasons of change, uncertainty, and overwhelm, often while carrying more than the people around them realize. Maybe you’re starting or finishing school, becoming a parent, working through changes in a relationship, or beginning a new chapter in sobriety. Sometimes there isn’t one obvious reason you’re struggling. Sometimes it’s just everything.

Your Therapy Experience

I believe the relationship we build in therapy matters. I want you to feel comfortable enough to be honest, not just about the things that are easy to say, but about the things you’ve learned to hide, minimize, or carry alone.

I also want therapy to feel human. I’m not sitting across from you waiting for you to say the right thing, and I’m not going to jump in and tell you how to fix your life. Sometimes what you need first is someone who will really listen and say, “Yeah, that makes sense.”

We’ll slow things down, make room for what you’re actually feeling, and get curious about where some of these patterns come from. There will probably be some sarcasm and laughter along the way, too. I am pretty unflappable- so there's nothing off limits on what we talk about. You get to show up as you are. We’ll figure out the rest together.

My Specialties & Approach

My approach is relational and trauma-informed. That means I’m interested in what you’re carrying now, but also in the experiences and relationships that have shaped how you learned to carry it. We can slow things down enough to notice the patterns that keep showing up and understand where they came from without judging yourself for having them.

I work with teens and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship struggles, and major life transitions. I also support people navigating substance use and recovery. Our work isn’t about finding the quickest way to make a hard feeling disappear. It’s about understanding your experience, figuring out what you need, and making room for something different.

More About Me!

When I’m not in the office, you’ll probably catch me at the gym, various events around town, or enjoying downtime at home with my family! While not a College Station native, I have grown to love this community over the last 3+ years and love trying out new restaurants and coffee shops. I’m a lover of all things Disney, a good romance novel, reality TV, and cheering on my dawgs each Saturday in the fall! One of my favorite quotes is:

“We're almost there and nowhere near it. All that matters is that we're going.” -Lorelai Gilmore
